Villagers dig bodies of dead relative to give a makeover in bizarre ceremony

In Indonesian province of Toraja, people follow this weird ritual in order to keep their relatives alive in their heart and minds.

According to the report, people take out the dead bodies from their coffin and give a clothing makeover. The dead bodies are also washed and groomed.

In this ceremony, not only adult’s dead bodies but also children dead bodies are exhumed.

Damaged coffins are also replaced or fixed.

People keep their late loved one’s corpse for days, weeks or sometimes months with them, before they are again buried.

According to some ancient beliefs, the spirit of a dead person must return to his village of origin.

Which means if a person dies in the middle of the journey, people have to walk him back to his origin village.
