Lionel Richie Spelled ‘Ritchie’ AT 2014 BET Awards

Lionel Richie was awarded with Lifetime Achievement at the 2014 BET Awards on Sunday night but with a misspelled name on the screen.

The big winner was spelled as Lionel Ritchie instead of Lionel Richie. Check the surname with an extra letter ‘t’.

Immediately after the moment when the singer accepted the award onstage, his misspelled name started trending on Twitter. Some of the viewers who recognized the spelling mistake quickly started talking about it on the social platform.

One of the viewers wrote, “@LionelRichie’s name better not be misspelled on the actual award.” Another tweeted, “You really didn’t misspell his name, @BETAwards!!!!???? C’mon y’all!!! OMG!!!”

Richie accepted the award from Pharrell Williams. Before it he was also treated with some good performances from artists like Yolanda Adams, John Legend and Ledisi. They covered his songs.

Richie was impressed with their performances and said, “That was absolutely amazing… Everyone did a great job. These are all the songs that they told me would ruin my career.”

The singer also added further that the soul of ours is a feeling and not a color, and similarly the talent is a God-given gift and not a category.
