The highly anticipated sequel/prequel (really this is above defining, literally) to the X-men series, has arrived: X-men: Days of Future Past, hit the theaters on Friday.

The director Bryn Singer returned to the X-men franchise for the first time after the first two X-men movies. He has succeeded in making a high rolling, star studded installment to the hugely popular series of mutant heroes with some of the biggest names in the industry including Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, just to name a few.

There have been mostly positive to average reviews on the movie. Here are some of the things that reviewers have been saying about the movie.

Claudia Puig from USA Today writes that X-Men: Days of Future Past is the most ambitious and ingenious of the long-running series with the superhuman characters keeping the audience on the edge in this riveting sequel amidst their globe-trotting, time-traveling and using their various powers often.

Variety’s Justin Chang writes that in this movie Stinger has been able to tap effortlessly into his talent of creating comic-book gravitas, and also emotional resonance, pop poetry and sly humor for one of the X-men installment for the first time since the X2: X-men United in 2003.

David Rooney of the Hollywood Reporter says that the movie, although dramatic and diffuse, and also lacking a definitive villain, X-Men: Days of Future Past has been shot with a stirring reverence for the Marvel universe, which makes for a ambitious, and also suspenseful movie while keeping the doors open for continued re-inventions of the series and also sequels.
