Court: Ariel Winter’s Guardian Older Sister; Father To Control Finance

The custody battle over Ariel Winter, the child star of the Modern Family, has finally come to an end with a judge on Thursday morning naming the star’s elder sister Shanelle Gray as the permanent guardian.

The court has announced her father to take full control of the child star’s finances. These orders are effective till Winter turns 18 on January 2016.

Chrisoula Workman, Winter’s mother, agreed to drop her objections to the ruling today on the condition that her daughters watch a video montage of family photos before the court adjourned.

Judge Daniel Murphy agreed to the condition and a collection of family photos were displayed on the projector, to which both Winter and Gray teared up.

During the hearing, the actress made no comment and the judge told her that it will be her decision whether or not she wants to visit her mother.

Winter has been living with her elder sister since 2012 when a temporary guardianship was put in to place after the actress had alleged that her mother was physically and emotionally abusing her.

A different judge had previously said that the evidence of emotional abuse was found by child protective services but the claims of physical abuse were unsubstantiated.

During the hearings on Thursday, however, Workman had insisted that she never abused her daughters and that the allegations made against her were false. After the proceedings were over, Gray and Workman released a joint statement saying that the family has moved beyond the conflict.
