During the summer months, when the air is fresh and the sky is bright, it can be quite off-putting to come home to a house which is overcrowded and untidy. While decluttering your home is a big job, it can really make your house feel more spacious and relaxing, so it is worthwhile doing if you have the time. Organizing your home doesn’t need to be a difficult job, it just requires you to come up with a plan and stick to it, and you can do it over whatever timescale works for you. If you think that it might be time to tackle the clutter around your home this summer, then here are some simple tips to make the job a little easier.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms are a space which can easily take on a lot of clutter without you even noticing. The medicine cabinet can get stocked up with products which you haven’t used in years, and half-filled bottles of soap and shampoo can easily take over your shelves. Therefore, it is important to go through everything which you have, and do a quick evaluation of what you need and what can be chucked away. One good tip for organizing everything is to place all of you most used items at eye level, so you’re not having to search for them in a rush and make a mess.

Bedrooms and offices

In these spaces, it’s best to start by tidying up the general area, such as by making the bed and clearing desks of clutter, as this will create room for sorting through your storage units later on. Go through draws and fold clothing items neatly in the bedrooms. In the office spaces, make sure to organize your paperwork efficiently, and label everything, from finances to home appliance warranties. If you feel like any paperwork is missing, this is your chance to get everything in order. For example, you might find it worthwhile to make a pay stub for any missing records of your income, so that you know you have all of the necessary paperwork you need for taxes and other legal purposes.

Kitchen and living room

Your kitchen is the hub of the home, which is why so much mess seems to localize in that area! From utensils to food and beverages, there is a lot which has to be stored in your kitchen, which is why your first step should be to take out every item from all of your cupboards and lay them out on the sides and tables. That way, you can make an assessment of everything you have, and decide whether you need it or not. Then you can chuck away unnecessary items, and organize the rest of the items so that they are neat and easy to find. You should do the same in the living room and other social areas, and make sure to tackle draws and boxes where random unnecessary items often get stored away.
