Probably The Hobbt: The Battle of the Five Armies may once again top the U.S. box office this weekend with an estimated collection of $23 million, which is though down from the Christmas weekend by about 45 percent.
On early Friday the estimates for the movie from the stable of New Line-MGM was about $9 million.
In 20014 the Hobbit is the eighth-highest domestic grosser. Internationally too it has performed good. The movie has hit $457.8 million. In Germany alone the movie has grabbed $62.6 million and in UK it has managed $52.3 million.
The movie has not yet released in China. It will hit the theaters there on January 23.
This Christmas Santa gifted two more great movies namely “Unbroken” and “Into the Woods” apart from “The Hobbit”.
The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies topped box office in Christmas weekend leaving behind the other two successful movies. It earned an estimated revenue of $54.5 million across the four-day holiday.
Unbroken meanwhile earned $47.3 million in the same period and Into the Woods managed to grab $46.1 million.
Meanwhile, the big flop in the weekend was Weinstein Company’s Big Eyes. It earned only $4.4 million in the first four days.
The much talked about Sony’s The Interview earned only $2.8 million. In the wake of emails hack of the studio the movie was initially canceled from release. However, in the last moment Sony announced releasing it in limited theaters. It got screen in 331 theaters.
